A hit is called when you want an additional card. Once the new card has been given the total card value will reflect the new hand. There is not limit to the number of hits you can request so as long as it does not bust the hand. You can also choose to hold or declare a Blackjack.
When you stand you will accept no additional cards and you hand remains the same.
When the sum of your initial two cards is either 10 or 11 you can double you original wager. Keep in mind that a double will place a bet two fold of you original bet and you will only receive one additional card.
Your next choices will vary depending on your initial cards.
If the initial cards you get are identical in value you can take the chance to split the two. If you take the split, then each card will become two individual hands and play will continue. Also when the cards are split, a wager equal to the first will automatically be placed on the second hand.
The following rules apply to all splits:
In the event the Dealer's face up card is an Ace, you will be offered Insurance against Dealer Blackjack. The Dealer always checks for the possibility of a Blackjack immediately after the first card dealt is revealed to be an Ace. The Insurance bet will cost you half of your initial wager. When the Dealer does not have a Blackjack, they you will lose this bet and play will continue. If the Dealer has a Blackjack then the Insurance bet will payout at 2 to 1 but you will forfeit you original bet except if you also declare a Blackjack.
In hands where you hold seven cards at the same time they you will be declared the winner. Such a hand is called a Seven Card Charlie and it will payback 1 to 1.
